The Nuffield Trust, Health Foundation and King’s Fund says a combination of international recruitment, student grants and innovation is needed to ease the pressure across the board.
The report suggests that it could be short of 70,000 nurses and 7,000 GPs within five years unless urgent action is taken to address a growing staffing crisis.
The Thinktanks have come up with a few solutions to solve the staffing problems. For nurses, they say studying in England must be made more attractive. Bursaries were removed and tuition fees were reintroduced in 2016, which surely hinders the appeal of working within the NHS.
Another aspect that the NHS could consider when wanting to entice potential staff and keep current staff within their roles is internal training.
