A New Mental Health App Has Been Launched For Construction Workers Mental health support is an area that has received a fantastic amount of focus this year. Whether it’s family members, friends or colleagues, everybody will directly or indirectly interact with somebody suffering, which is why any support around the topic should be shared, promoted and praised.
The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity has just launched a dedicated mental health support mobile app for all construction workers in the UK. The free mental health app provides vital information, advice and guidance on many well-being topics including stress, anxiety, depression, anger and suicidal thoughts. 99% of construction workers on building sites in the UK are male, and the biggest killer of men 20-49 years is suicide, so it makes absolute sense to develop a tool which can be used anywhere, for free, to help this demographic.
The app is free to download and available on the Google Play Store or the App Store. The charity itself already runs a helpline for individuals which is the first point of contact for workers to access a range of completely free and confidential support services. Some of these services include emergency finance, advice on welfare and mental well-being and support on legal, tax and debt management matters.
Bill Hill, CEO of the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity said: “The app complements our existing 24/7 Construction Industry Helpline and is aimed at construction workers and their families. We recognise that not everyone feels comfortable talking about their feelings or personal situation, so the ‘Construction Industry Helpline’ app is aimed at people who would like to find out more information about how they can perhaps help themselves or if necessary, take the next step in seeking professional help.”
As mental health is a complicated and in-depth topic, sometimes it takes a little more time and effort to support those affected. We offer several courses for CEO’s, team leaders and staff to help develop their knowledge and support.
